Ish Sodhi, Kyle Jamieson Back for WI T20Is

Kyle Jamieson and Ish Sodhi will reunite with New Zealand for the T20I series against West Indies at Eden Park in Auckland on November 5.

Ish Sodhi returns to the T20 squad after playing against Australia in early October, while Jamieson returns after a side injury that sidelined him during the ODI series against England.

“Kyle is back bowling this week and tracking well for this series,” said coach Rob Walter. “Ish Sodhi is our most capped T20I player and it’s always great to be able to add his skills, energy and experience to the group.”

Uncapped Wellington all-rounder Nathan Smith is also in the 14-man squad. Smith played against Sri Lanka at home and away last year.

“Nathan’s made an imposing start to his international career in the Test and ODI formats and we back him to do the job if he gets his T20 chance in this series,” said Walter.

Matt Henry, who missed the past two ODIs against England with a calf issue, will miss the T20Is. Pre-planned conditioning will prepare him for the ODIs and Tests that follow the T20I series, according to NZC.

“Matt has played every game for the BlackCaps since the tour of Zimbabwe in July – so it’s the right moment for him to have a short break and the fact he will also get some time to rehab his calf is another upside.”

Due to injuries, Finn Allen (foot), Lockie Ferguson (hamstring), Adam Milne (ankle), Glenn Phillips (groin), and Ben Sears (hamstring) were not selected.

New Zealand’s penultimate T20I series before Walter chooses his provisional team for the ICC T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka next February-March is the five-match series. After Kane Williamson retired, this will be New Zealand’s first T20I assignment. Walter saluted the batting legend.

The team has benefited much from his runs and leadership in this manner. Walter says he captained the T20 team in 75 of his 93 games, demonstrating his influence and service.
