Jemimah opens up on anxiety after heroics

During the post-match ceremony of an exciting Women’s World Cup 2025 match against Australia at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai, an emotional Jemimah Rodrigues shared her feelings. up Thursday, October 30, Jemimah in Navi Mumbai put up a 127-run masterclass to help India chase down a record 339-run mark.

She began by giving thanks to Jesus and then expressed gratitude to her coach and parents. Jemimah admitted that she was unaware of batting at No. 3 till the very last second. She also emphasized how, rather than concentrating on her own score, she batted in the middle and adhered strictly to the team-first strategy.

“I want to start by giving thanks to Jesus since I couldn’t accomplish this on my own. I am aware that he got me through today. I want to express my gratitude to my coach, my parents, and everyone else who simply had faith in me during this period. The past four months have been extremely difficult, yet it still feels like a dream and hasn’t quite set in. To be honest, I didn’t bat at three. When I was having a shower, I was still at five.

And I just said, “Let me know,” during the conversation. I found out that I’m batting at three right before I entered. However, I didn’t consider myself. I wasn’t supposed to make a point. We’ve always lost in certain scenarios, therefore it was just for me to win this match for India. And all I wanted was to be present so I could help us get through. It wasn’t about my 50s or 100s today.

The goal of today was to help India win. Although I am aware that I have a few opportunities, I feel as though God has provided everything at the perfect moment and developed it into a pure intention. I feel that everything that has happened up to this point has been done so that I may sit up for it. At the post-match ceremony, Jemimah said, “You make your own luck.”

Jemimah middle-order batsman also talked about how, despite her declining mental health following her expulsion from the team the previous season, her “pillars of support” continued to stand with her. In what ended up being one of the most spectacular run-chases in women’s ODI cricket history, she also reaffirmed how her faith in the Bible enabled her to overcome obstacles and even see it through to the very end.

“To start, I was eliminated from this World Cup last year. When I arrived this year, I decided to give it a shot. Let’s take it farther; I was in good form. But I had no control over anything, and things just started happening one after the other. I was surrounded by incredible people who had faith in me. This tour has nearly brought me to tears every day. I was experiencing a lot of anxiety and was not feeling well psychologically.

Then, I found it difficult to be dropped. But I believe that God took care of everything; I just needed to show up. At first, I guess I was just attempting to focus by talking to myself constantly. However, I was only quoting one Bible passage toward the conclusion. I felt exhausted since I had lost energy. One passage I was working on says, “Just stand still, and God will fight for you.”

He stood up for me while I stood there. I believe I was completely depleted. Even though it was incredibly difficult, I made an effort to remain composed until the ball was over. And when I saw that India had won my last match, I suppose I was unable to stop myself,” she continued.

When both batsmen were at the crease, Jemimah talked about her chat with captain Harmanpreet Kaur. The Player of the Match concluded by thanking the large number of spectators who were out to support her and the Indian team.

We only discussed one partnership until Harman Di arrived. Runs are coming, we said. However, if you want to witness that, I was unable to achieve it in the end, despite my best efforts to push myself. Richa is still talking to me. Everyone was talking to me and supporting me, Deepti. Amanjot then began to raise me up. I am extremely fortunate that my teammates support me when I am unable to continue. None of this can be attributed to me. I am aware that I did nothing.

I’ve always had a special place in Navi Mumbai. I couldn’t have asked for more. I want to thank all of the members who applauded, shouted, chanted, and believed. Everything. Additionally, I was aware of when I was feeling low, but their encouragement lifted my spirits with each run.

“I want to thank everyone who came in big numbers and everyone who helped,” Jemimah said.

On Sunday, November 2, India will play South Africa in the championship match. The same location will host the game. Jemimah’s greatest score of 127 runs was her third ODI century. Over the course of the innings, she hit 14 fours.
