The mother of India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav was recently spotted praying for Shreyas Iyer’s quick recovery during the Chhath Puja festivities. The gift was given by Surya’s mother following Iyer’s catastrophic injury during the third ODI match against Australia in Sydney.
When Iyer tried to make a diving catch to get rid of Alex Carey, he got hurt. The 30-year-old suffered abdominal injuries after landing hard on his left side. Medical scans showed that he had a splenic laceration, resulting in internal bleeding, which transformed what had appeared to be a typical accident into a serious health concern.
The cricket player was taken to a hospital in Sydney right after and confined to the intensive care unit (ICU), where he received treatment to halt the bleeding, according to the BCCI. Later, medical professionals said that if treatment was delayed, the damage may have been fatal. Reports indicate that he is no longer in the intensive care unit but will continue to be monitored for a few more days. Thankfully, his condition has already stabilized.
During Chhath Puja, which was observed by millions of Indians, a video of Suryakumar Yadav’s mother completing the rites while praying for Iyer’s recovery went popular on social media.
“Shreyas Iyer ke liye sab log pray kijiye, kyunki maine suna ki uski tabiyat theek nahi hai, ki main ye bolna chahti hu.” You can hear her say, “Mujhe bilkul acha nahi laga,” in the video.

Since he is answering the phone, he is stable: Suryakumar Yadav
Due to India’s ongoing tour of Australia, Suryakumar was unable to attend the Puja. However, he addressed the issue at a news conference in Canberra. He disclosed that he had attempted to get in touch with Shreyas Iyer the day of the incident but was initially unable. He later learned that Shreyas Iyer was stable and responding to treatment from the team’s physiotherapist.
When we learned of his injury, we at least had a conversation with him on the first day. First, I gave him a call. Then I discovered that he was without a phone. I thus dialed Kamlesh, the physio. I was informed that he is stable. He looked good on the first day, albeit I’m not sure how. For the past two days, we have been conversing. He’s been responding.
It indicates that he is steady if he is answering the phone. It appears to be going well because there is a doctor present as well. He’s good, I mean. He is speaking. It’s all normal. “I’ll take care of myself for a few more days,” he replied. It’s fantastic, though, because he has been responding and speaking to everyone,” he remarked.
The BCCI has taken charge in the interim to make sure Shreyas Iyer is supported and comfortable as he recovers. Reports state that the board is arranging for a family member to accompany Iyer to Sydney while he receives treatment.
