A rapid double century was hammered by Indian batsman Prithvi Shaw for Maharashtra during the current Ranji Trophy 2025–26 season. At the Sector 16 Stadium, Prithvi Shaw scored 200 runs in 141 balls while playing against Chandigarh, the third-fastest double century in Ranji Trophy history. 28 fours and three sixes in his knock have once again put his name in the running for a national comeback.
Following years of ups and downs with the Mumbai Cricket Association, Prithvi Shaw made the decision to start a fresh season with Maharashtra. The move followed a difficult 2024–25 season during which he was criticized for his form and level of fitness. Prithvi Shaw, who was given a No Objection Certificate (NOC) earlier this year, made his debut for Maharashtra against Kerala, but it didn’t go well as he was dismissed for a four-ball duck in the opening innings. But with a 75 in the second, he recovered well. He not only made history against Chandigarh, but he also communicated with the national selectors.
History is created by Prithvi Shaw innings.
Maharashtra reached 359/3 thanks to Prithvi Shaw 222 from 156 balls in the second innings. At a strike rate of more than 140, he accelerated to his double ton after reaching his hundred in just 72 balls, which was the sixth-fastest in Ranji Trophy history. The only players in the tournament’s history to reach faster double hundreds were Tanmay Agarwal (119 balls) and Ravi Shastri (123 balls). The second-fastest double century in the Ranji Trophy’s Elite Group stage was also reached in this innings.
Due to erratic play, injuries, and off-field scandals, the cricket player was sidelined shortly after making his debut in 2018 with a Test century. Questions about his temperament were once again raised by incidents like his recent argument with former Mumbai colleagues. Talks about his eagerly anticipated national return have been sparked by this innings.
