Prithvi Shaw’s 200 Sparks India Comeback Talk

On October 27, Maharashtra’s opener Prithvi Shaw scored his first century against Chandigarh in the 2025–26 Ranji Trophy season. Prithvi Shaw moved teams for the upcoming season from Mumbai to Maharashtra, starting a new chapter in his domestic career.

In the second innings, Shaw rallied after being removed for just eight runs in the first innings. He smashed a spectacular century off just 72 balls to help push Maharashtra’s lead beyond 250 runs. As evidence of his aggressive aim, his scorching century stands as the sixth-fastest century in Ranji Trophy history.

Prithvi Shaw had made a duck in the first innings and 75 runs in the second in Maharashtra’s season-opening game against Kerala. His last century, which came for Mumbai in February 2024, concluded a 20-month century drought. He will be hoping that this innings would spark his first-class career again after a challenging season in which Mumbai dropped him due to fitness and discipline concerns.

Prithvi Shaw domestic record is still remarkable across all media.

He has amassed 4,556 runs at an average of 46.02 in 58 first-class games, including a career-high 379 and 13 hundreds and 18 half-centuries. He has scored 3,399 runs at 55.72 and a strike rate of 125.74 in List A cricket, and 2,902 runs at 151.54 and an average of 25.01 in T20 cricket. In the IPL 2025 super auction, Shaw did not sell despite his domestic numbers.

With Ruturaj Gaikwad scoring 116, Arshin Kulkarni scoring 50, and Saurabh Nawale scoring 66, Maharashtra amassed 313 runs in their opening innings of the current game. Both Jagjit Singh and Abhishek Saini took three wickets for Chandigarh. In response, Chandigarh scored 209 runs, with Nishunk Birla staying undefeated at 56 and Raman Bishnoi reaching 54. Vicky Ostwal was Maharashtra’s outstanding batsman, taking 6 for 40 to give his team a 104-run advantage in the first innings.
