For major competitions like the Women’s World Cup 2025, Sophie Devine, the captain of New Zealand, has urged the administration to improve their predictions. As of Sunday, October 26, rain had entirely ruined five matches, prompting her remarks.
When it came to the International Cricket Council and their choice of venues for major competitions like the World Cup, Devine agreed with Pakistani legend Fatima Sana’s earlier comments.
Sophie Devine talked about how women’s cricket doesn’t have enough One-Day Internationals.
It happens once every four years: the World Cup. I overheard Fatima Sana mention that they don’t play cricket very much. “We don’t play a lot of cricket, especially in the ODI format, and to have something that everyone knows about negatively impact the World Cup again,” Sophie Devine said in an interview with Sky Sports.
“All the administrators had to do before setting up the tournament was a simple weather forecast check on the internet,” the batting all-rounder said. Devine wished for improved preparation for the upcoming tournaments since he will be retiring from ODIs following New Zealand’s final round-robin match.
When we learned that the competition would be held in part in Sri Lanka in October, during the monsoon season, I believe we noticed it right away. All it takes is a quick Google search, and everyone can see it well enough. Going forward, you undoubtedly hope that there will be a little more preparation for the future and that there will be some flexibility to adjust to it, as you say. Additionally, Sophie Devine said, “I know that money, broadcasters, and television all contribute to the game’s funding, but it’s not very enjoyable to watch players in the changing room and covers being put on and off.”
Sri Lanka and Pakistan had to share points in three of their group games out of the seven their teams were assigned to play, while New Zealand was affected by rain twice. Rain disrupted all five of the events, which were held at Colombo’s R Premadasa Stadium. If there had been no rain interruptions during any of the matches, the semi-finalists might have been different.
