On Saturday, October 25, at the Tinsukia District Sports Association Ground, Day 1 of the ongoing 2025–26 Ranji Trophy match between Assam and Services began with hat-tricks each from Arjun Sharma and Mohit Jangra, who dominated Assam. In the ongoing second round match, the hosts were ultimately bowled out for 103 in 17.2 overs on Day 1 in Tinsukia.
In the eleventh over, three consecutive deliveries were taken out by Arjun. Captain Riyan Parag was the first victim of the left-arm spinner’s over (36 off 31). To mark a historic milestone, Jangra scored a hat-trick in two different overs. Jangra claimed the wicket of Pradyun Saikia (52 off 46).
Jangra, of course, became the third cricketer to win a hat-trick in the Ranji Trophy, while Arjun became the first after Shardul Thakur. When the Mumbai cricketer faced Meghalaya in January 2025, they won three out of three. The match, which Mumbai won by a massive margin of an innings and 456 runs, had Shardul as the Player of the Match.
Regarding the Assam-Services match, Jangra finished with 3/5 in 4 overs while Arjun finished with 5/46 in 6.2 overs.
Services took the lead in the first innings, but it was by the narrowest of margins. Prior to taking five wickets (5/25 in 10 overs), Parag had hit three sixes and two fours on his way to 36. When all was said and done, Rahul Singh had taken four scalps.
Irfan Khan finished with 51 off 81, staying out to the very end. On the opposing team, just two other players reached double figures. Parag’s best bowling numbers in First-Class cricket were 5/25. Nevertheless, the first innings lead to Assam was not guaranteed despite his and Rahul’s outstanding ball-handling performance.
The current red-ball season began with Services defeating Tripura by an innings and 20 runs. However, Assam squandered the opportunity to take the lead in the first innings of that match as well, drawing with Gujarat at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
