Glenn Maxwell Returns to Australia’s T20I Set-Up

The T20I squad has also included promising Western Australian bowler Mahli Beardman, and Glenn Maxwell and Ben Dwarshuis have been cleared to return for the final portions of the forthcoming T20I series. In the final match against India in Sydney, Jack Edwards, an all-rounder from New South Wales, has earned his first international call-up.

A number of alterations to the ODI and T20I squads were notified by Cricket Australia on Friday. Prior to the third game at the SCG, Marnus Labuschagne was cut from the ODI team in order to be ready for Queensland’s Sheffield Shield match against New South Wales at the Gabba, which begins on Tuesday.

“Dwarshuis has been brought in to return for games four and five, while Glenn Maxwell will return from a fractured wrist for the final three games of the series,” Cricket Australia said in a formal media statement on Friday, October 24.

Additionally, Josh Philippe has joined the T20 team. In order to prepare for the fourth round of Sheffield Shield, Josh Hazlewood left after game two, while Sean Abbott left after game three. Mahli Beardman was added starting in game three,” the release continued.

Josh Hazlewood and Sean Abbott will play in New South Wales’ Shield match against Victoria, which starts on November 10 at the SCG, and will be absent from the last stages of the T20I series. Abbott will withdraw from the team following the third Twenty20 International in Hobart due to his hand’s split webbing, and Hazlewood will only play in the first two Twenty20 Internationals.

Having played in the first ODI in Perth but missing the second in Adelaide due to Adam Zampa’s return, Matthew Kuhnemann has been called up to play with Edwards in Sydney. Josh Philippe, who replaced Alex Carey after playing the first ODI, has been included to the T20I team as a backup wicketkeeper because Josh Inglis is still healing from a strained calf.

Glenn Maxwell will play in the remaining three Twenty20 Internationals after missing the first two because of a fractured wrist he suffered last month while bowling in the nets in New Zealand.

After missing time due to a calf injury, Dwarshuis will be available for the fourth and fifth Twenty20 Internationals in Queensland.

The addition of Beardman is among the more unexpected choices. Although the young fast has only played one List A match for Western Australia, he was a late injury replacement during Australia’s 2024 white-ball tour of England. With the Perth Scorchers and Western Australia, Beardman has had a strong start to his T20 and List A careers after recovering from stress fractures during the winter.

Edwards was chosen for the ODI team after Australia A had a run of successful games during their most recent tour of India. Because the second and third ODIs are so close together, his inclusion provides the selectors an opportunity to try an all-rounder-heavy lineup in the final stretch at the SCG, maybe allowing Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc to take a break.
