James Anderson is replaced by Ravi Ashwin at the top of the ICC Men's Test Player Rankings.

The experienced Indian bowler Ravichandran Ashwin surpasses James Anderson to take over as the top-ranked Test bowler, ending Anderson’s reign. After England’s shocking defeat against New Zealand in the second Test of the series, Anderson fell to second position.

James Anderson fell to second position in the standings as a result of the Black Caps tying the series and winning the second game by one run.

But with his stunning performance in the second Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy, Ravichandran Ashwin advanced in the standings. As Ashwin seized the top spot, Pat Cummins fell to third.

Ashwin’s six wickets in India’s victory over Australia in the second Test fueled his ascent to the top spot among Test bowlers. The 36-year-old first made it to the top in 2015 and has held the top spot quite a few times since then.

Team India will rely on Ashwin and Jadeja to put pressure on Australia.

Team India will attempt to rely on the skills of Ashwin and Jadeja to capture wickets for them once more after the failure of their batting attack in the current third Test. The Australian spinners proved to be too much for India to handle, and the hosts were bowled out for just 109 runs.

India got off to a strong start after Ravindra Jadeja struck opener Travis Head, sending him back to the pavilion. Since then, India has had a really difficult time due to the top-order hitters. Early on, Marnus Labuschagne and Usman Khawaja got the lead and accumulated runs to close the distance.

Ashwin and Jadeja must replicate their performances from the series’ first two Test matches, and it will be interesting to see how the Rohit Sharma-led team performs under pressure.
