After being rested for their previous Test match against New Zealand, pacer Richard Ngarava has also returned to the team.
Two uncapped players, Antum Naqvi and Tinotenda Maposa, have been added to the 16-man roster. Naqvi just become eligible to play for Zimbabwe.
For their one-time match against Afghanistan later this month, Zimbabwe has called up Brad Evans to their Test team. Evans has only participated in one Test match, against the West Indies in 2023. Zimbabwe qualified for the 2026 T20 World Cup thanks to the all-rounder’s excellent play in recent weeks.
Veteran Sean Williams is still missing out after being cut from Zimbabwe’s squad for personal reasons during the T20 World Cup qualifiers. Vincent Masekesa, Trevor Gwandu, Newman Nyamhuri, and Clive Madande were not included in the previous team. In keeping with expectations, Craig Ervine will captain the team for this match, which starts in Harare on October 20.
Following the one-time Test, the two teams will play three Twenty20 Internationals. With Zimbabwe winning the two-match Test series 2-0 the last time, this will be Afghanistan’s second trip to Zimbabwe in less than a year.
