A recent encounter prompted Glenn Maxwell to select his all-time ODI starting lineup. The renowned all-rounder then announced a special team that would only include Australian and Indian players.
Remarkably, Glenn Maxwell chose Rohit Sharma as the batsman to open with David Warner, ignoring Sachin Tendulkar, the top run scorer in ODI sport. The 37-year-old clarified that he desired a top-of-the-order left-right combination.
“Rohit Sharma’s statistics are not bad. And Davey (David Warner) is my choice; he has an average of 45, a strike-rate of 97, and 22 hundreds. Two openers that are rather obvious. Maxwell said, “I could have gone Sachin, but I’m going to go right-left (combination) to start,” in the Fox Cricket video.
MS Dhoni was then selected by Maxwell as his wicketkeeper-batter, Shane Watson as his all-rounder, and Virat Kohli, Ricky Ponting, and Michael Bevan as his middle order. He paired Indian mainstay Jasprit Bumrah with Australian greats Glenn McGrath and Brett Lee in the bowling department. As the team’s speciality spinner, Anil Kumble, a former captain of the India Test team, was selected.
But it was pointed out to Glenn Maxwell that he had selected six Australians rather than the five that were permitted. By removing Warner from the starting lineup and substituting Tendulkar, the Master Blaster, the Kew-born rectified this.

Glenn Maxwell is not expected to play in any of the white-ball games between Australia and India, which begin with the three-ODI series on October 19. Prior to the Mount Maunganui T20I series against New Zealand, he fractured his arm bowling at the nets to Mitchell Owen, which has kept him out of action.
