Joe Root: I’m ready to score a Test hundred in Australia

Joe Root, the outstanding batsman for England, believes he is ready to break his long-standing streak of failing to reach a Test hundred in Australia when the Ashes series starts next month. In his 27 innings played in Australia, Joe Root has never once scored more than three figures. There, he has nine fifties, with his best score of 89 occurring during the final away Ashes in Brisbane in 2021.

Joe Root remarked, “But I feel ready for it,” in reference to breaking out of the pattern. “Big series are the ones you want to play in and contribute in.”

Joe Root has improved his game with a tonne of runs all over the world in the four years since England’s last Ashes trip of Australia. With a total of 1708 runs at the end of 2021, Joe Root was far ahead of Rohit Sharma, who came in second with 908 runs. He went on to score 1098 runs in 27 innings, 787 runs in 14 innings, and 1556 runs in 31 innings in 2022, 2023, and 2024, respectively. This year, he has scored 571 runs in 10 innings. He moved up to second place in Test history for most runs this year, surpassing players like Ricky Ponting, Jacques Kallis, and Rahul Dravid.

Joe Root returns there without the extra burden of leading the team, even though the runs have been coming off his bat. Ben Stokes took Joe Root place as Test captain following that 2021 Ashes tour.

“I feel as though I’ve changed since my last outing. “I am much more experienced and I don’t have the responsibility of captain,” the 34-year-old told Sky Sports. “I have had a good couple of years coming in and I have learnt good lessons from my previous tours there as a batter and senior player.”

Along with highlighting England’s possibilities of winning their first away Ashes series since 2011, Root emphasised the importance of avoiding being influenced by personal praise. Driven by their aggressive approach to the format, this will be the first time England has been to Australia for Test matches since the Stokes-McCullum era.

“I feel that is the opportunity in front of us that we have to chase and grab,” he said. “I will receive personal recognition if I fulfil my job on the team, but that is not the primary goal. It has been a while since we held the urn, so it’s about getting it back,” Joe Root stated.

“I believe we have some powerful tools at our disposal to attack Australia. We have a chance if I score a lot, so hopefully we can get that right.”

On November 21, the opening game of the five-match series will take place in Perth.
