With his maiden series victory as Test captain on Tuesday, October 14, Shubman Gill was naturally ecstatic. In the second Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, the Asian heavyweights defeated the West Indies by seven wickets under his wise leadership.
Shubman commended his colleagues for their all-around performance in both Test matches against the Caribbean team after the win. Regarding his own hitting, Shubman, who recorded one fifty and one hundred runs in the series, stated that the strain of expectations is not weighing him down.
It’s undoubtedly a very pleasant sensation. We performed admirably in both games, in my opinion, in every category. We did a good job of turning things around. When it comes to batting, I’m having a great time and not giving pressure, expectations, or anything else much thought. Gill stated on Amul Cricket Live, “I just want to go out there and enjoy what I’ve been doing since I was a kid.”
The batsman for Punjab said he is accepting the responsibility that comes with leading the Indian squad as captain.
I truly enjoy being a part of some of the important choices, and I believe it brings out the best in me. And that’s what’s taking place. I like being in charge. I think it’s been helping me, and I like to be ‘the guy’ out there,” Shubman Gill said.

Shubman Gill emphasised how Kuldeep Yadav can perform well under any circumstance. The series’ highest wicket-taker was the left-arm wrist spinner. After taking five wickets in the first innings and three in the second, he was named the second Test’s Player of the Match.
“I am so pleased with Kuldeep. For us, he has consistently been a strike bowler. And you’re always tempted to play a wrist spinner, especially someone like Kuldeep, regardless of the circumstances. However, there are instances when you need to consider your options, such as whether to choose a wrist spinner or an extra all-rounder. No matter what surface you’re playing on, he always keeps you in the game,” the 26-year-old remarked.
Additionally, Shubman discussed his thoughts about quickly changing formats. India recently participated in and won the T20 Asia Cup on September 28. On October 2, the two-match Test series against the West Indies got underway. Now, starting on October 19, the Men in Blue will take on Australia in a three-match ODI series.
The turnaround time from the Asia Cup to this Test series was extremely short. We played a Test match within two or three days of the Asia Cup’s conclusion. I had never seen that before. However, I find that coming back to the fundamentals of a certain format works well for me. Knowing the fundamentals and the basis of that format is something I always return to when switching formats, and I believe it works for me,” Shubman said.
