Virat Kohli Back in India for Upcoming Matches

London-based Indian cricketing great Virat Kohli arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday, October 14. On March 9, 2025, Virat Kohli last represented India in a competitive match at Dubai. On Wednesday, October 15, Kohli will be travelling from Delhi to Australia with the Indian squad to play in the three-match ODI series.

Fans have been buzzing about Virat Kohli at the airport after a number of his photos and videos went viral on social media. On October 19, the tour will kick off in Perth’s Optus Stadium. Adelaide and Sydney will host games on October 23 and 25, respectively.

India’s second-highest run scorer in One-Day Internationals, Virat Kohli, will make his debut as captain under Shubman Gill.

He has the chance to overtake former Sri Lankan skipper Kumar Sangakkara and take the second-highest run total in ODI history during this series. In 302 ODIs, the Delhi batsman had scored 14,181 runs, and Sangakkara’s career-ending total was 14,234 runs in 404 games. Only 54 runs separate Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar, the “God of Cricket,” from reaching this milestone.

This tour will also be Shubman Gill’s first time leading the ODI team; he recently succeeded Rohit Sharma. Following his appointment as Test captain, Gill led India to a 2-0 thumping of the West Indies and a 2-2 series draw with England. Under his leadership, India is now ranked third in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025–27 standings. The Men in Blue, captained by Asia Cup winner Suryakumar Yadav, will also play five 20-over matches after the ODI series.
