Nonkululeko Mlaba Receives ICC Demerit Point After India Game

The Women’s World Cup match versus India resulted in a demerit point for South Africa’s left-arm spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba for violating the ICC Code of Conduct. After dismissing Harleen Deol in the 17th over of India’s innings, Nonkululeko Mlaba waved goodbye to the leaving batter, a move the ICC believed might have sparked an aggressive response.

Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon her dismissal during an international match,” was violated by Nonkululeko Mlaba , according to an ICC release on Saturday, October 11.

Third umpire Candace Le Borde, fourth umpire Sue Redfern, and on-field umpires Kim Cotton and Jacqueline Williams all made the accusation. Nonkululeko Mlaba acknowledged the violation and agreed to the punishment that match referee Trudy Anderson suggested, which included a formal censure and one demerit point on her record.

For a period of 24 months, Nonkululeko Mlaba record will bear this demerit point.

A ban of one Test, two ODIs, or two T20Is, whichever occurs first, can be imposed by the ICC for earning four or more demerit points during this time frame.

In response, South Africa defeated India by an exciting margin of three wickets. In 49.5 overs, the hosts, India, were bowled out for 251, with Richa Ghosh scoring the most with an incredible 94. In her 10 overs, Chloe Tryon of South Africa took 3 for 32, demonstrating her skill with the ball.

Nadine de Klerk led the chase with an undefeated 84 off 54, winning Player of the Match, while skipper Laura Wolvaardt led the innings with 70 runs, helping South Africa reach the goal of 252 in 48.5 overs.

India Women are ranked third in the points standings after the outcome, and South Africa Women are ranked fourth. The October 12 match between India and Australia and the October 13 match between South Africa and Bangladesh are also set to take place at Visakhapatnam.
