During a recent practice match against his old team, Mumbai, Maharashtra batter Prithvi Shaw got into a furious on-field confrontation with rookie all-rounder Musheer Khan. Shaw has already apologised to Musheer, though, and the issue is now resolved.
At the MCA Stadium in Gahunje, Pune, during the three-day friendly match between Maharashtra and Mumbai, the incident occurred. Prithvi Shaw hammered 181 off 220 balls, including 21 fours and three sixes, as he and Arshin Kulkarni forged a 305-run stand for the opening wicket while playing for Maharashtra after relocating from Mumbai. Musheer reportedly sarcastically remarked, “Thank you,” after dismissing Prithvi Shaw, which sparked the incident.
The Maharashtra hitter took offence to the remark and launched himself at the young spinner in a furious rage. Prior to the umpire intervening to diffuse the tension, the right-handed batter was even observed raising his bat in exasperation. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) and the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MACA), the state associations, began investigating the dispute after video footage of the altercation went viral.
To discuss the incident with both players, Dilip Vengsarkar
In order to conduct a proper review, former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar would address both players, according to Mumbai Cricket Association secretary Abhay Hadap. MACA secretary Kamlesh Pisal emphasised the significance of upholding discipline as well, stating that the association would obtain a report on the occurrence prior to making any decisions. According to a Times of India article, Prithvi Shaw later apologised to Musheer and said he considered himself to be the young Mumbai player’s older brother.
“After realising his error, Prithvi Shaw went to Musheer and expressed regret. “To you, I am like an older brother,” Prithvi said. “So, everything is good between the two,” a source told this publication.
Shaw is particularly close to Musheer’s older brother, Sarfaraz Khan, who was once a teammate of Shaw’s from Rizvi Springfield School and Mumbai. The two athletes’ relationship reportedly improved as a result of their friendship.
