According to South Africa captain Temba Bavuma, he will draw inspiration from New Zealand’s historic sweeping victory over India in October and November of 2024. Including two Test matches, the Proteas are getting ready for a multi-format trip of India. Bavuma said he was confident his team could follow in the Black Caps’ footsteps, and he hoped South Africa will win both games and record their own sweeping victory.
With victories of eight wickets in the first Test match in Bengaluru, 113 runs in the second in Pune, and 25 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, New Zealand became the first side to completely destroy India in a three-match series at home. In order to get advice on how to defeat India under their own circumstances, Bavuma, who most recently guided South Africa to the World Test Championship championship, also stated that he intends to talk to New Zealand captain Kane Williamson.
It’s never easy to tour India. In my opinion, New Zealand’s corporate strategy was inspirational in a lot of ways. Many away and touring teams visit India and haven’t been successful,” Bavuma stated, as cited by NDTV Sports.
That is the largest cricketing nation. Kane Williamson will be coming, I’ve heard. So, I’ll be asking him for advice on how they approached it,” he continued.
The middle-order batsman also stated that he hopes to use the Test series against Pakistan, which the Proteas will play prior to the India tour, to gain momentum and improve their preparations.
“But see, we’re going to have another successful series. The guys’ destination is Pakistan. That challenge will be handled by them. And India follows immediately after. Additionally, I believe that the guys who have visited India are aware of how difficult it is, as I mentioned. However, Bavuma stated, “I believe that the opportunities are there, just like in any game or series.” Therefore, we will undoubtedly want to win from an ambition standpoint. We are aware, however, that we must play the best cricket possible.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were also commended by the right-handed batsman for helping to make India the strong team it is today. Seeing it as a chance to see the next generation of talent take front stage, he added that he was thrilled to be competing against the young players on both teams.
“Shubman Gill, who is now with India, has clearly taken over the leadership of the Test staff and, I believe, the ODI staff,” he continued. It’s exciting, in my opinion. I mean, he’s an amazing player. He’s a thrilling athlete. Furthermore, if I may use that term, it appears like the new era has begun. I believe that players like Kohli and Rohit, who came before him, have performed their duties.
It’s true that they have elevated India to the top and made them a formidable squad,” Bavuma added.
“So, I don’t think it takes anything away from what they have done for Indian cricket. I think it’s just the way the game goes. You know, at some point, the sun stops shining on you, if I could say. The younger guys, the ones that you’ve mentored, the ones that you have inspired, they take over the reins. So I’m sure India will continue to dominate. Our job as South Africans is not to allow them to dominate as much. But I’m sure India will continue being one of the top teams in the world,” he concluded.
