According to Zubin Bharucha, Director of High Performance for the Rajasthan Royals (RR), adolescent cricket sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi is prepared for a call-up to the senior Indian team. Bharucha has reportedly already asked Ajit Agarkar, the chairman of selectors, to take the young player into consideration for the senior team selection, stating his belief that he may have a big effect on the international scene.
Bharucha emphasised the importance of the young player’s inclusion by directly comparing Vaibhav Suryavanshi to cricketing great Sachin Tendulkar.
After making a spectacular IPL debut for the Rajasthan Royals earlier this year, Vaibhav Suryavanshi became well-known.
“He need to be promoted to the senior squad as soon as possible, much like Sachin Tendulkar was when he made his debut. They must give this man a chance right now. He is functioning in an entirely different realm. Send him on a tour of India A, at the very least. The Times of India cited Bharucha as saying, “If he had faced the Australian bowling attack here, he would have scored a double century.”
The left-handed opener reached the milestone in just 35 balls, setting a new record for the fastest century by an Indian in IPL history. He had already dazzled supporters by scoring the quickest century in youth ODI cricket against England earlier in 2025. Surprisingly, he made his first-class debut at the age of twelve and attracted notice with a spectacular U-19 Youth Test century against Australia.
He became the youngest player in the lucrative league’s history after his performance earned him a contract for INR 1.1 crore with the Rajasthan Royals. During an RR training session, Bharucha also recalled a memorable event in which Vaibhav Suryavanshi fought England’s fiery bowler Jofra Archer in the nets.
I was anxious when Vaibhav encountered Jofra. A shot from this boy’s back foot, however, soared out of the stadium. Jofra and everyone else were in disbelief,” Bharucha stated.
The Rajasthan Royals are probably going to keep the Samastipur native for the next season as the IPL 2026 auctions draw near. Vaibhav Suryavanshi would become the youngest player ever to be retained in Indian Premier League history if that were to occur.
