Tazmin Brits Scores Hundred, Celebrates with Bow-and-Arrow

At the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on Monday, October 6, the Proteas Women defeated the New Zealand Women by six wickets thanks to an incredible century from South African opener Tazmin Brits. After the team’s crushing defeat to England Women, where they were bowled out for just 69 runs, her knock not only guaranteed victory but also gave them a huge boost in confidence.

After scoring four hundreds in her past five WODIs, Tazmin Brits has been in outstanding form and has maintained her supremacy on the big stage.

She attacked from the opening, leaving New Zealand with no answers, and raced to three figures in stunning fashion. She received a standing ovation from the audience and her teammates for celebrating with a bow-and-arrow gesture after pushing a delivery to long-off for a single. In the end, Lea Tahuhu hit her for 101 off 89 balls, which included 15 fours and a six.

The Tazmin Brits spearheaded South Africa’s chase, with Sune Luus, who amassed an undefeated 83 runs, providing additional support. In just 40.5 overs, their combination led the team to victory. Nonkululeko Mlaba was the standout player for South Africa with the ball, scoring 4/40, while Amelia Kerr of the New Zealand Women finished with statistics of 2/62.

After choosing to bat first, New Zealand scored 231/10 in 47.5 overs. With nine fours and 85 off 98 balls, captain Sophie Devine once again took the lead. Georgia Plimmer and Brooke Halliday also made significant contributions.

New Zealand will play Bangladesh on October 10 in Guwahati, while South Africa will now play India on October 9 in Visakhapatnam. Luus’ tenacity and the Brits’ century will undoubtedly give the Proteas more confidence as they try to gain ground in the competition.
