In his first innings as captain on home soil, Shubman Gill achieved yet another milestone after shattering numerous records in his first Test series as captain. The historic moment occurred on day two of the first Test match against the West Indies in Ahmedabad on Friday, October 3.
After a spectacular tour of England, when he amassed 754 runs at an average of 75.40 in five Test matches, including four hundreds, Gill came into the series in great spirits.

But, as happened several times in England, Gill was unable to continue the knock. West Indies captain Roston Chase caught him at first slip as he fell to a reverse sweep. Gill has now been dismissed twice for using that stroke against a spinner.
Gill had appeared calm and confident up until that point, batting with a control percentage of more than 95 percent. Before the impulsive shot terminated his tenure, he looked ready for a big one.
