As the team gets ready to defend their heritage on the international scene, captain Alyssa Healy, teammates Beth Mooney, Annabel Sutherland, Georgia Wareham, and Tahlia McGrath discussed the squad’s mindset, leadership, and preparations. Australian athletes talked about their mindset, strategy, and preparation for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, which is starting in Guwahati.
Alyssa Healy discussed managing pressure and guiding the side in an interview with JioStar:
“I’m focused on my current task, which is to guide the team to an ODI World Cup. It’s an intriguing balance, and I don’t take it for granted, but I’m motivated to win this tournament. Everyone wants to defeat Australia, but when the chips are down, we battle back and maintain our composure. We regain the momentum in our advantage in this way.
Beth Mooney on the mindset of Australia:
Australians are known for their never-say-die mentality. We think we can win from any position and are constantly in the race. What gets the work done is this group’s belief and determination to succeed.
Annabel Sutherland’s thoughts on momentum and belief:
“Belief is always the key to a successful mindset. It only takes a single second for a game to change. We are confident that we can accomplish that again because we have done it numerous times.
Georgia Wareham on his comeback from injury and the brutality of the team:
It was difficult to miss the previous World Cup due to injury, so being able to play this year is thrilling, especially in India with its incredible supporters. This team’s ruthlessness, in my opinion, is what makes them unique. We have had difficulties on numerous occasions, but various individuals have risen to the occasion and helped us get through them. It will be thrilling to watch Alyssa at this World Cup since she leads with enthusiasm and a lot of energy behind the wickets.
Tahlia McGrath on teammates and leadership balance:
Despite our stark differences, Alyssa and I work well together on the pitch. I try to be the cool head in the background, but she is very outspoken and passionate. Working with her and having that balance is pleasant. Additionally, Megan Schutt bowls the hardest overs and is incredibly dependable and consistent. Because of her skill, she goes unnoticed. She is our team’s DJ off the pitch and is undoubtedly the cool one.
