Mohsin Naqvi to Award Trophy, India Keeps Cards Close

The trophy will be presented at the Asia Cup 2025 final by Mohsin Naqvi, the president of the Asian Cricket Council and the chairwoman of the Pakistan Cricket Board. On Sunday, September 28, India will play Pakistan in the continental competition final.

It will be interesting to observe how the Indian cricket team responds to the latest handshake controversy. As of yet, nothing specific has been released. For those who are unaware, he has every right to attend the presentation event, shake hands as is traditional, and present the trophy as the head of the administrative body (ACC).

It appears very unlikely that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will permit the Indian players to interact with Mohsin Naqvi given their current position.

In the meantime, no instructions have been released by the BCCI. It’s still possible, though, that the team may receive some training.

After the recent terror incidents in Pahalgam, Mohsin Naqvi has publicly taken an anti-Indian attitude.

According to current information, he will arrive this evening and, of course, present the winner’s trophy in his capacity as ACC chairman. India Today cited a tournament insider as stating, “Let’s see what the BCCI decides.”

For those who are unaware, Mohsin Naqvi had earlier complained to the International Cricket Council (ICC) on behalf of the PCB about match referee Andy Pycroft for forbidding good-natured conversation at the toss and following the completion of India’s group-stage encounter against Pakistan.

Following much back and forth, including two different letters demanding that Pycroft be dropped from the tournament, the ICC flatly rejected the Pakistan board’s request, stating that Pycroft had done nothing wrong and had actually saved both captains from a humiliating circumstance.

On Sunday, India will try to defeat their bitter opponents for the third consecutive occasion. They have already defeated Pakistan by seven wickets in the group stage match and by six wickets in the Super Fours in their two previous meetings at the same location.
