Abdur Razzaq, a former left-arm spinner, has resigned from his position as a selector in order to run in the October 6 Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections.
In order to represent Khulna Division in the BCB board room, Abdur Razzaq, who was named selector in January 2021, purchased the nomination form for the director’s poll on Saturday, September 27.
Abdur Razzaq informed Cricbuzz, “I have resigned from the selectors post to join the BCB election,” following the submission of the category 1 candidacy paper.
The president will be chosen by a group of 25 directors, including 12 from clubs, 10 from Division and District, two selected by the NSC, and one from category three, which includes representatives of other organisations.
The final voter list of 191 council members for the next board of directors’ elections was released by the BCB Election Commission on Friday.
The final list includes council members from 15 clubs in Dhaka that were not included in the original list, which was made public on September 23, because the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) was looking into them for possible irregularities.
Additionally, the election commissioner stated that since the 15 clubs had not yet been found guilty by the ACC, they were granted councillorship.
Additionally, five districts—Sylhet, Bogura, Pabna, Sirajganj, and Naogaon—were given councillorships. But the Narsingdi district council seat was still unfilled.
In addition, the EC retained the councillorship of former BCB president Faruque Ahmed since it was satisfied with his justification for the late submission.
The EC held hearings on 38 objections to the draft voter list at the BCB office on September 25. The nomination forms for the board of directors election were distributed by BCB on Saturday between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm at the BCB office. Candidates must turn in their forms the next day, September 28.
After playing for the national side in 13 Test matches, 153 ODIs, and 34 T20Is, Razzak is a well-liked former cricket player in Bangladesh. His total number of wickets in all three forms was 28, 207, and 43. From 2004 to 2018, the 43-year-old was a member of the Tigers. In addition, he has a half-century in ODI cricket.
Bangladesh just lost to India and Pakistan at the Super-Four stage of the 2025 Asia Cup, causing them to exit the competition. However, their strong victories against Afghanistan and Sri Lanka earlier in the campaign will give them confidence.
