Shree Charani Credits Mother’s Faith for Cricket Journey

Recently, Shree Charani shared a fascinating anecdote about why, as a child, she switched from medium pace to spin bowling. The child disclosed that she used to have trouble hitting batters as a medium pacer while she was playing cricket in her village. The decision to use bowling spin was prompted by the lack of consistency and success.

The 21-year-old left-arm spinner, who has had a strong start to her international white-ball career, also related an instance that showed how much her mother believed in her skills.

In closing, Shree Charani expressed her hope that she would contribute to the team’s success at the next big tournament.

“We played on turf in my village, and if the ball went out of bounds, it was deemed out. I was a medium pacer back then, but I wasn’t very good at getting batters out. I made the decision to become a spinner at that point. Batters found it difficult to handle my deliveries once I started delivering spin, therefore I started taking wickets regularly. “That was the beginning of my journey as a spinner,” Shree Charani told JioStar.

“My mum always believed that I would succeed in cricket. The clerk once enquired about the kit bag I was carrying while we visited a gold store in Kadapa. “She plays cricket and one day she will play for India,” my mother retorted. The first person to believe in me was her. Everybody wants to play in a World Cup and represent India. I consider myself fortunate to have this chance, and I will do everything in my power to succeed for the team and India,” she continued.

On Tuesday, September 30, India Women will play their first match against co-hosts Sri Lanka at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. It is anticipated that Shree Charani will be essential to the spin-bowling department’s success.
