Legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has explained why, even if Abhishek Sharma is out for a low score in the Asia Cup 2025 final, India shouldn’t be overly concerned. So far in the continental tournament, Abhishek has been in outstanding form, hitting at a remarkable 204.63.
Gavaskar mentioned players like Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav, among others, and how they would likely light up the stage in Dubai during Sunday, September 28’s summit match against Pakistan. The well-known cricket player-turned-commentator also made it clear that he won’t be shocked if Abhishek Sharma goes on to get a century despite losing out on one earlier in the competition.
“A few of important players have the power to change things. Hardik Pandya, Sanju Samson, Tilak Varma, and Suryakumar Yadav are all due for runs. Although Shubman Gill has batted effectively, he hasn’t yet produced the high scores that we have recently come to anticipate from him. India Today cited Gavaskar as saying, “There’s no need to be overly concerned because there’s plenty of batting firepower left.”
“Abhishek Sharma in particular is adamant about seizing opportunities.
Despite an unfortunate run-out that robbed him a possible century in his Super Four match against Bangladesh, he has been in fantastic form with three half-centuries and is likely to try for another big innings, potentially even a three-figure score,” he added.
The historic Dubai International Cricket Stadium will host the summit match between the Men in Blue and Pakistan. This competition will be the third time the bitter rivals will face off against one another. Both times, the Men in Blue were victorious, winning by seven wickets in the group stage and by six wickets in the Super Four stage.
They will be playing each other in the Asia Cup final for the first time this coming match. This tournament, the team captained by Suryakumar Yadav has not dropped a game. So far, they have won all six of their games.
