When asked about the forthcoming match against Pakistan amid growing tensions between the two men’s teams, India Women team captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who will captain the team in the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, said her team will remain focused solely on cricket and will not be distracted by matters on or off the pitch.
All of the participating captains attended the Captains Day activities, which were conducted concurrently in Bengaluru and Colombo, prior to the tournament’s opening match between India and Sri Lanka. Four of the captains joined in Colombo, while the other four were in Bengaluru. In light of the recent events affecting the men’s teams in the Asia Cup 2025, Kaur was questioned throughout the conversation about her thoughts on playing Pakistan.
“The opening game is our top priority right now because it is crucial. For any squad, the first game is usually crucial. That game will set the tone for us, so that is what we are concentrating on. Second, each team has equal significance. Only the things that we can control are under our control. Our primary goal is to play cricket, which is why we are here. According to NDTV, Kaur stated, “We’re here to play the game, and our focus will remain on playing cricket. We’re not going to entertain anything else on the pitch.”
For the uninitiated, the International Cricket Council (ICC) intervened and chastised players from both sides after the recent Asia Cup 2025 matches between the men’s teams of India and Pakistan generated numerous disputes. Only a few days before Kaur leads the Women in Blue to their World Cup opening match against Sri Lanka in Guwahati on September 30, the two men’s teams will now face off again in the final in Dubai on Sunday.
To add to the excitement of the 2017 top 50-over global competition, the highly anticipated India-Pakistan women’s match is set to take place on October 5 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
