Abhishek Sharma’s Runs Impress Sri Lanka Great

Sanath Jayasuriya, the head coach of Sri Lanka, has given Abhishek Sharma high marks for his recent batting performance. Abhishek has been playing at an amazing 204.63 in six games so far throughout the Asia Cup 2025, which is leading up to the final.

Jayasuriya praised Abhishek Sharma for believing in playing his natural game when asked if he saw any similarities between a younger Jayasuriya and Abhishek during the post-match conversation.

They (team management) have encouraged Abhishek Sharma to play his natural game, and he is doing so. According to News18, Jayasuriya stated, “That’s important because if someone is playing his natural game, we need to encourage him to continue doing so.”

The devastating left-hander also revealed how Abhishek Sharma has gradually improved his ability to pace his innings once the powerplay is over.

He restated that Abhishek Sharma natural gameplay was supported by the team management.

He now understands how to slow down whenever he wants to. Thus, if he want to bat for a longer duration after six overs (of powerplay), he is doing so. He is getting better at batting and scoring more runs every day. The coaching staff has allowed him to play his natural game, which is a plus in my opinion. That’s crucial,” he continued.

In India’s last Super Four match against the Lankans at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Abhishek scored 61 off 31. He hit two sixes and eight fours in his fast-paced innings. India reached 202/5 thanks in large part to his knock.

More than half of Sri Lanka’s required runs were produced by Pathum Nissanka (107 off 58), but his performance was in vain as Indian spinners rallied in the middle overs. In the end, the game was deadlocked, and the Men in Blue defeated the Charith Asalanka-led team in a fiercely contested encounter thanks to Arshdeep Singh’s outstanding Super Over performance. On Sunday, September 28, the Men in Blue will now play Pakistan in the championship match at the same location.
