In the 2025 Asia Cup match between India and Sri Lanka in Dubai on Friday, September 26, Dushmantha Chameera made a spectacular catch off his own bowling, displaying incredible agility and game knowledge. With his skill on the pitch, the 33-year-old got rid of the dangerous Hardik Pandya in India’s opening innings.
The 17th over of the innings began with a fast delivery from Chameera that was aimed at Hardik’s body.
The Baroda all-rounder tried to hit the on-side with a six. The ball wasn’t short enough to execute the pull shot, though. All Hardik could do was top-edge the ball in the direction of the space between mid-wicket and mid-on.
An excellent athlete, Chameera called early and rushed to the ball to make the catch. He ran to his right side, keeping his eyes on the ball, and had to make a final dive to make the difficult catch. Given Hardik’s reputation for going crazy in the final overs, this was a huge wicket for Sri Lanka.
India was asked to bat first and ultimately concluded with a score of 202/5. In four overs, Chameera gave up 40 runs. India’s leading scorer, Abhishek Sharma, hit 61 off 31 balls, with helpful contributions from Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson, and Axar Patel.
