During the team’s first official warm-up match against England at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru on Thursday, pacer-all-rounder Arundhati Reddy was struck on the knee and wheeled off the pitch, severely hurting India’s preparations for the Women’s World Cup 2025. Her availability for the major event has been called into question due to the injury, which occurred just five days before the tournament’s opening.
The incident happened in the thirteenth over of England’s innings when Reddy hit Heather Knight with a dot ball after dismissing Amy Jones earlier in her spell. Before Reddy could react, the England captain smashed the ball back down the pitch and into her left knee. The 27-year-old was in anguish and instantly collapsed to the ground. Her teammates hurried to her aid, and following a physiotherapist’s on-field evaluation, she was led to the boundary ropes before being wheeled away for additional testing. The final two deliveries of the over were made by captain Jemimah Rodrigues.

India will open the competition against Sri Lanka.
Arundhati Reddy made a brief appearance during a rain break, hobbling badly and walking slowly, however the full extent of his injury is still unknown. She did not, however, go back to bowl, and she was disqualified from the warm-up. The management will be waiting for medical updates as India prepares to play Sri Lanka in Guwahati on September 30 to kick off their World Cup campaign.
Arundhati Reddy is playing in his debut ODI World Cup, which is noteworthy.
She made her ODI debut in 2024 after two successful seasons with the Delhi Capitals in the Women’s Premier League. Since then, she has taken 15 wickets in 11 games, including a career-high 4 for 26 against Australia in December of last year. She is a valuable member of India’s middle-order and pace unit because of her ability to contribute with both the bat and the ball.
Arundhati Reddy joins Renuka Singh Thakur, Kranti Goud, and all-rounder Amanjot Kaur as the only four seam alternatives in India’s 15-man roster. Amanjot hasn’t played competitive cricket since the England tour earlier this year, while Renuka just returned after a protracted injury layoff. In recent appearances, standby list member Sayali Satghare has displayed flashes of genius.
In the lead-up to the World Cup, India has already experienced injuries. Uma Chetry has been selected to replace wicketkeeper-batter Yastika Bhatia, who suffered an ACL tear during the Vizag skills camp and is now out.
