Despite the series commencing days after the Asia Cup 2025 ends in UAE, India’s chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar says pacer Jasprit Bumrah would play both Tests against West Indies.
Bumrah, who is playing in the eight-team continental event in the Emirates, has been picked in the 15-man squad for India’s second WTC 2025-27 game against West Indies, a two-Test series.
The Indian team has regulated Bumrah’s exertion to prevent injury. In the 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, India drew 2-2 against England under Shubman Gill, and he played only three of the five Tests.
Agarkar said Bumrah had a “fair break” following the England series and has being used well at the Asia Cup.
This team has been selected for both Tests, thus he’s available. We rested after England. His fifth Test at The Oval was also skipped. The gap lasted five weeks. The Asia Cup was spread out to the penultimate week. No, he’s eager to play both Tests “Agarkar confirmed.
The first two group-stage games against UAE and Pakistan were played by Bumrah, who was rested for the third one against Oman after India qualified for the Super Fours.
Bumrah returned for the first Super Four match against Pakistan and was retained for the second against Bangladesh. After qualifying for the final, India can rest him against Sri Lanka on September 26 in a Super Fours dead-rubber.
The first Test against West Indies will begin in Ahmedabad on October 2. Teams will fly to Delhi for the second match on October 10.
