Suryavanshi Sets New Youth ODI Sixes Record

A long-standing Youth ODI record was recently broken by batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who passed Unmukt Chand to become the player with the most career sixes in Youth One-Day Internationals.

Unmukt, the U19 World Cup-winning skipper, set the record with 38 sixes in 21 Youth ODI games. In just a few appearances at the highest level of age-group one-day cricket, Suryavanshi achieved that milestone during the current India U-19 tour of Australia.

Cricket Australia posted the video of Vaibhav Suryavanshi innings against AUS U-19 at Brisbane (Ian Healy Oval).

In his forceful cameo against Australia U-19 in the first Youth ODI at Ian Healy Oval, Suryavanshi broke the record by hitting 38 off 22 balls to start India’s chase.

The series opener saw Abhigyan Kundu (87*) and Vedant Trivedi (61*) form an unbroken 152-run stand after the visitors’ quickfire cameo gave them a strong start and ultimately a commanding seven-wicket triumph. John James’ 77 was the foundation of Australia’s 225, but earlier in the game, India’s bowlers had kept the hosts under pressure.

After a strong England series and an incredible IPL debut with the Rajasthan Royals, when he was signed as a teenager and went on to become the youngest men’s T20 centurion in franchise history, Suryavanshi arrived at the Australia tour. The southpaw hit four sixes in 54 balls to reach his fifty in the second ODI of the tour. After reaching 70 off 68 balls, which included five boundaries and six sixes, his innings was over. According to numerous experts and commentators, the young player is regarded as the next big thing in Indian cricket and might soon make his debut if he maintains his excellent form.
