In December, the renowned R Ashwin announced his retirement from international cricket. His Indian Premier League (IPL) career came to an end last month. He had, however, stated that he would like to participate in franchise leagues all over the world.
R Ashwin has entered the next ILT20 (International League T20) auction with a base price of USD 120,000 (about INR 1.06 crore), suggesting that he may be about to sign his maiden deal with an international T20 team. Out of all the players participating in the ILT20 Auction 2025, he has the highest starting price. The only player on the ILT20 auction longlist with a base price in the six digits is the legendary off-spinner.
R Ashwin has indicated that he is available for the competition.
R Ashwin , 39, is one of 24 Indian athletes on the longlist, which now consists of around 800 participants. After the ILT20 receives the wishlists from each franchise, a final list will be created this week.
Six teams will compete in the fourth iteration of ILT20 from December 2 to January 4. On October 1, the auction will take place in Dubai. Following that, he is probably going to the BBL, where four teams are reportedly interested in hiring him for the second half of the season.
In Test cricket, R Ashwin is India’s second-highest wicket-taker. In 106 Test matches, he had taken 537 wickets. With 156 wickets in 116 games, the seasoned player concluded his ODI career. In the meantime, he took 72 wickets in 65 Twenty20 Internationals. He claimed 187 wickets in 220 IPL games.
R Ashwin, who has six hundreds in Test cricket, is also a useful batter. He has played in the IPL and ODIs for half a century apiece. When Ashwin plays in the upcoming ILT20, cricket fans in the United Arab Emirates will be excited to see him display his skill. By asking him questions, the UAE players would also have the chance to learn more about the game.
