For Surrey’s last County Championship season encounter against Hampshire at the Utilita Bowl, Indian leg-spinner Rahul Chahar has been added to the team. As Surrey attempts to win the Championship for the fourth time in a row, the 26-year-old joins the team.
Rahul Chahar did not play in Surrey’s home games against Warwickshire and Nottinghamshire, despite having being registered by the team earlier this month in accordance with ECB standards. Nottinghamshire entered the title race as a result of the latter’s tight 20-run loss. The Hampshire match is now a must-win for Surrey, who are already 14 points behind, and their future also rests on Nottinghamshire’s performance against Warwickshire at Trent Bridge.
Rahul Chahar had to be added to Surrey’s squad due to injuries. Will Jacks and Cam Steel, their main spin options, are gone, and R. Sai Kishore, a spinner from Tamil Nadu who was once anticipated to return for the end of the season, has been ruled out due to finger surgery.
Sai Kishore was initially scheduled to return for the final stages: Alec Stewart
In 24 first-class matches, the leggie, who plays for Rajasthan in the Ranji Trophy, has taken 87 wickets at an average of 26.12, with top statistics of 9 for 148. Even though he has only played in one ODI and six T20Is for India, he is well-known for helping the Mumbai Indians win the IPL twice in 2019 and 2020. He made just one appearance this season as an impact substitute and also had brief stints with Sunrisers Hyderabad and the Punjab Kings. The Rajasthani native talked about the chance and how excited he is to play in the crucial game.
“I can’t wait to play for Surrey this week. According to Cricbuzz, he stated, “I’m coming here to have an impact and help the team in their final match of the season.”
Alec Stewart, Surrey’s high-performance advisor, greeted Rahul Chahar and discussed its importance in light of the team’s current situation. Stewart discussed Sai Kishore’s injury, which kept him out of action for the end of the season.
“We have another spin option in the Utilita Bowl now that Rahul is a member of the team. Given the possible surfaces and the opposition we’re playing against, we always tried to anticipate for the possibility that we might be missing players for the last stretch of the season. We had initially planned for Sai Kishore to return for the end of the season, but he was unable to do so due to a finger injury that required surgery, Stewart stated.
