During the ongoing Asia Cup, Abhishek Sharma has captivated the cricket community, notably former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq, with his superb batting skills, particularly against Salman Ali Agha and company in the United Arab Emirates.
On Sunday, September 21, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Abhishek Sharma struck a scorching 74 off of 39 balls in the Super-Four match against Pakistan. With six fours and five sixes, the Punjab batsman enthralled the stadium and assisted India in chasing down a target of 172 runs in just 18.5 overs.
While playing against Pakistan for the first time in international cricket, Misbah commended Abhishek Sharma skill level and attitude, emphasising that he didn’t appear to be under any strain. Earlier this month, in the Asia Cup Group Stage, the southpaw had hammered 31 off only 13 balls.
According to Misbah, Abhishek Sharma appeared to be having a net session.
His demeanour and level of talent are truly remarkable. He didn’t appear to be under any pressure for the first time against Pakistan. He appeared to be playing in the nets. After the game, Misbah spoke on Tapmad and stated, “He just calmly sends the ball away when it lands in the zone.”
The former cricket player who is now an analyst also highlighted how Abhishek eased the burden on his teammates by taking on Pakistan’s top bowlers at crucial times.
“What matters most is that he consistently attempts to put pressure on the main bowler.” The team is seriously disrupted by that,” Misbah continued.
Misbah clarified how Abhishek targets various opposing fast bowler lines and lengths as part of a well-defined game plan.
The hard length is a fast bowler’s primary weapon. You are penalised, though, if there is breadth. Abhishek respected Shaheen’s attempt to hit those hard distances. However, Misbah clarified, “he simply made room and smacked the ball once it went short or full.”
With 173 runs at an average of 43.25 and a strike rate of 208.43 in four innings, Abhishek is the top scorer in the continental competition.
