After their most recent loss in the Asia Cup 2025 Super Fours on Sunday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, where India has now won, former Pakistani pacer Wasim Akram acknowledged that it was tough to watch Pakistan struggle against India after they had been routinely outplayed over the previous four or five years.
After a sluggish start, India eventually asserted authority in the encounter, which saw some heated exchanges between players from both sides on the pitch. Early on, Salman Ali Agha’s team demonstrated improvement by defeating India with their highest-ever T20I powerplay score.
However, Wasim Akram conveyed his dissatisfaction with the significant disparity in skill between the two teams.
“I will talk from the bottom of my heart. Pakistan is difficult to watch. As a former player, I can relate to winning and losing in that aspect of the game. But once more, during the past four or five years, India has surpassed Pakistan in every way. We have won here and there a couple of times, but India has been amazing. The depth, the talent—everything. In any game, it’s acceptable to drop one or two catches. However, after hitting 91 in the first 10 overs, there won’t be anything to say if we don’t reach 200,” Wasim Akram stated live, as reported by The Indian Express.
The hilarious dismissal of Pakistani all-rounder Muhammad Nawaz really irritated Wasim Akram and left him speechless. In the last over of the first innings, Nawaz was hit by a sharp piece of fielding after the hosts had previously dropped a number of catchable opportunities.
Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav took advantage of Nawaz as he walked nonchalantly away from the crease, seeming oblivious to the danger. Jasprit Bumrah was told to hold the ball after the Pakistan captain knocked it to Varun Chakravarthy at square leg, but the spinner missed his effort to hit the non-striker directly. The ball eventually got to Suryakumar, who caught Nawaz completely off guard by throwing it at the stumps after seeing his delayed return to the crease as the ball seemed to be dead.
