After India’s 21-run victory over Oman in Abu Dhabi, fielding coach T Dilip verified that Axar Patel is “fine” after taking a hit to the head while fielding.
Patel was positioned at mid-off in the fifteenth over when Hammad Mirza’s misplaced shot swung in his direction. He attempted a third grab, lost his balance, and fumbled twice as he fled to his left. Before leaving the field, he was observed holding his head.
Patel bowled just one over and did not return for the rest of the innings. He had earlier smacked three fours and a six in a fast-paced 26 off 13 balls at No. 5.
It’s still unknown if Axar will be ready for India’s match against Pakistan in Dubai in less than 48 hours.
The all-rounder’s ability to float in the middle order gives India’s lineup much-needed balance. In the home series against England earlier this year, which India won 4-1, he also played as vice-captain.
Axar had taken two wickets in the group-stage match against Pakistan and was instrumental in controlling the run flow in the middle overs.
