Members of the Indian men’s cricket team, Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson, and Hardik Pandya, expressed their support and love for the women’s team as the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 draws near.
They demonstrated the pride and faith that the country brings to the home World Cup, from reminiscing about early childhood memories of Harmanpreet Kaur’s supremacy to complimenting Jemimah Rodrigues’ vigour and Richa Ghosh’s poise.
India’s Test captain Shubman Gill shared his early recollections of witnessing Harmanpreet Kaur, the leader of the Indian women’s team, dominate at the academy.
She used to visit the academy where I used to practise outside and play games with us when I was around ten or eleven years old. She destroyed our bowlers throughout the park, as I well recall. That was a rare sight for me as a child. Speaking on the JioHotstar program “Champions Wali Baat: Believe in Blue,” he mentioned that she batted with a great deal of aggression, which was significantly different from that period.
Shubman Gill said he was impressed by Harmanpreet’s leadership:
“It is a tremendous and really gratifying moment when someone advances through the ranks and becomes the captain of the nation, especially from our area in Punjab. It’s really thrilling to watch Harmanpreet do it with such joy and satisfaction.
Suryakumar Yadav, the captain of India’s Twenty20 International team, commended Jemimah Rodrigues and encouraged her to excel in the forthcoming World Cup:
“Seeing someone from your hometown (Mumbai) who has represented the state in numerous local games before going on to play for India is always encouraging. not only in bilateral series but also in World Cups. Jemimah has consistently delivered outstanding performances. She is a fantastic teammate who always helps everyone around, so I have no doubt that she will deliver on the enormous opportunity to play in the World Cup. She also delivers incredible energy to the ground, as we have all witnessed.
Jemimah’s calmness under strain was also praised by Suryakumar:
I believe she teaches us a lot as well. She has performed admirably in high-pressure situations, something we all hope to emulate. For Jemi, “Chhota packet, bada dhamaka” is her greatest quality. I truly like seeing her play; she just has to keep doing what she has been doing.
Richa Ghosh was commended by wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson for her poise and skill:
“Everyone enjoys watching Richa Ghosh.” She always exudes confidence and composure when she bats and takes wickets. She has a great deal to teach us. There has been a lot of hard work done behind the scenes, and it is never easy to wear the blue jersey in this country.
Ahead of the World Cup, India’s all-rounder Hardik Pandya offered the women’s team the following greetings:
“I just wanted to wish the women’s team well because I’m really delighted. We, along with the whole of India, are rooting for you. Enjoy the sport and get out there. Be yourself; don’t worry too much. At the same time, keep in mind that a billion people are sending their love and support to you.
