Nazmul Abedin, another BCB director who joined the board through the NSC, is currently serving as a district representative, while Aminul supporters are anticipated to occupy the two open NSC seats. In the end, the 25-member board will decide the presidential election.
Mohammod Hossain, a prominent counsel in the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, who heads the newly established election committee for the Bangladesh Cricket Board, stated on Monday, September 15, that he does not think there would be any impact even if Aminul Islam remains president of the BCB during the election time.
Ahead of the polls, Aminul, who is now in charge of the board, will run against Tamim Iqbal in what is more likely to be a political struggle than a cricket match because of recent events.
Aminul is anticipated to run from Dhaka Division, according to a previous report from Cricbuzz. Since then, it has come to light that he took Mohammad Ashraful’s place as a division councillor after Ashraful failed to appear before the National Sports Council (NSC). This made it possible for Aminul to take Faruque Ahmed’s place on the board.
It is known that Aminul is exerting every effort to hold onto his post as BCB president, supported by the government in his campaign against Tamim. In order to guarantee fairness, Tamim has demanded that Aminul (Bulbul) resign as president.
Chief poll Commissioner Hossain affirmed that the poll will go place on October 4 as planned in an exclusive interview with Cricbuzz. The decision to extend the deadline for submitting the councillorship form was made by BCB. They create a draft list of council members and provide it to us, at which point our work begins. For their own official reason, they took such action. However, as a result, there will be no obstacles to the election date. According to Hossain, the election process will begin on September 20 and the election itself will take place on October 4.
“Whether or not he will remain president of the BCB throughout the election is a personal matter.
He brushed off the question of whether Aminul’s continued tenure as BCB president will affect the polls. The existing committee is intended to stay in place until the new committee is created because the rule states that the old committee will turn over to the new committee. The former president is free to run in the next election, as stated in their Articles of Association or constitution. I personally don’t know what he decided. Since I’m a lawyer, I’m just expressing the legal viewpoint,” he stated.
“You will see that the previous committee does not step down prior to the election in any association, be it a federation or a trade group. The election is run by the Election Commission, and that committee is still in place. The Election Commission is in charge of the entire election process. “The president or old committee has no function in this process,” he continued, emphasising that the commission had “supreme power.”
“There won’t be any interference (even if Aminul remains as BCB president during election) as the Election Commission continues to work in its own way,” Hossain stated. “Anyone who is eligible to run and presents legitimate nomination papers and voters may do so. There isn’t an issue.
In the meanwhile, the BCB declared on September 14 that the deadline for submitting the 2025 Councillor Nomination Form will be extended. “The deadline has been rescheduled from Wednesday, September 17, 2025 to Friday, September 19, 2025. In a statement, BCB asked all parties involved to note the updated date and make sure that applications are made on time.
