Shubman Gill, the full-time Test captain and vice-captain of the Indian T20I team, has identified the player who inspired him to take up football. He also acknowledged that when playing the popular computer game FIFA, he selected two of the Premier League’s best teams.
Shubman Gill revealed that Neymar was the reason he began watching football at the 2014 World Cup. Additionally, he acknowledged that since Neymar left Paris Saint-Germain in 2023, he has been playing less FIFA.
In fact, it was Neymar who got me interested in football. I used to enjoy watching the World Cup in 2014. At that time, I began to watch football in a proper manner. Additionally, I used to enjoy watching Neymar, so I would choose the team he was on. I’ve kind of stopped playing FIFA ever since he left for Saudi Arabia and returned to Brazil. However, I recall that I used to select Liverpool in between games since they had a really good squad.
“And then Man City,” Shubman Gill said in a video that was uploaded to the YouTube channel for Apple Music.
Before the fourth Test in Manchester for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, Shubman Gill also thought back on the Indian cricket team’s recent encounter with Manchester United players. During the team collaboration, the top-order hitter reported speaking with multiple players.
“When we were in Manchester, we went to see every player. Yes, the Manchester United team and the Indian cricket team worked together as a team. The players were all truly outstanding. I met Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount, whom I had previously known while he was playing for Chelsea. The majority of the players were incredibly friendly and pleasant. We talked about a lot,” Shubman Gill continued.
Gill is presently participating in the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates with the Men in Blue. He just had a fantastic tour of England, scoring an incredible 754 runs in 10 innings. India bravely rallied to draw the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2-2 after falling behind.
