On September 11 at Abu Dhabi, Bangladesh defeated Hong Kong by a spirited seven wickets in the Asia Cup 2025 third match.
Before Hong Kong lost an early defeat when opener Anshuman Rath was removed by Taskin Ahmed, who made a good comeback from an injury layoff, captain Litton Das won the toss and chose to bowl first. Tanzim Hasan Sakib’s outstanding delivery that rocked Babar Hayat’s stumps defeated his counterattack attempt. Zeeshan Ali, a batsman and wicketkeeper, made 30 before Mustafizur Rahman made a spectacular catch.
With a 46-run partnership for the fourth wicket, Nizakat Khan (42 off 40) and captain Yasim Murtaza (28 off 19) stabilised the batting and led Hong Kong to a solid 143/7 in 20 overs. For Bangladesh, Taskin, Sakib, and Rishad Hossain each took two wickets.
Bangladesh encountered early difficulties chasing the mark when openers Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Parvez Hossain Emon were caught inside the powerplay. But Bangladesh was dismissed in 17.4 overs as Litton (59 off 39) and Towhid Hridoy (35* off 36) put together a 95-run partnership for the third wicket. Ateeq Iqbal took two wickets for Hong Kong.
Who Made What Remark?
Hong Kong’s Yasim Murtaza (Losing Captain)
Although I am pleased with the batters, I would have been even delighted if one of them had scored a large total—60–70+. I believe we know what needs improvement, and perhaps we’ll perform better the next time. We gave up too much against Afghanistan, but today we came up with a better plan and carried it out. However, Litton and the other batter had a strong working relationship.
Bangladesh’s Litton Das (winning captain and player of the match)
Winning the first game was crucial. Although we have performed admirably in the last two series, the Asia Cup may present a new kind of challenge. We performed admirably today. Our pace bowling staff has performed admirably in recent years; all we needed was a leg spinner, and Rishad has delivered. We had to play cautiously in the middle overs and take full use of the large ground with the singles and doubles because the wicket was a little slow.
