The starting lineup for England’s first Twenty20 International match against South Africa has been announced. The match is set for Wednesday, September 10 in Cardiff. Phil Salt, Sam Curran, Jamie Overton, and Jofra Archer are the four new players the hosts have added from the ODI series.
Even though England finished well with a record-breaking victory in the final match, the tourists come in great spirits after winning the ODI series 2-1. The greatest margin of victory in One-Day International history was achieved by England, who won by 342.
After an outstanding season for Manchester Originals in The Hundred, Salt has been rewarded with a call-up. In eight innings, the wicketkeeper-batter amassed 203 runs at a strike rate of almost 131 and an average of 25.37, including a half-century.
Curran’s comeback to England’s white-ball team is further testament to his all-around skill. The all-rounder has subsequently performed admirably for Oval Invincibles in The Hundred, although his last appearance in international cricket was in November. In eight innings, Curran amassed 238 runs, including two fifties, at a scorching strike rate of 176.29 and an average of 34.00. He took 12 wickets with the ball at an average of 19.83, which was vital in helping the Invincibles win the championship for the third time in a row.
The return of Archer gives England yet another significant advantage. With two consecutive four-wicket hauls in the ODIs against South Africa and nine wickets in two home Test matches against India, the fast bowler has had an injury-free summer. As England prepares for important tournaments, his speed and level of conditioning will be constantly watched.
The second edition of the three-match T20I series will take place in Manchester on September 12 and will end in Nottingham on September 14.
