For Tamil Nadu wicketkeeper N Jagadeesan, 2025 will always be remembered. After Rishabh Pant was ruled out owing to injury, he was just selected for India’s fifth Test match against England. The 29-year-old celebrated his first India call-up by smashing a century in the present Duleep Trophy semi-final match between North Zone and South Zone at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground in Bengaluru, despite not being able to make his international debut.
The Coimbatore native struck 16 fours and two sixes to score 197 off 352 balls while starting the batting. At the end of Day 2, Mohammed Azharuddeen’s South Zone amassed a huge first-innings tally of 536 thanks to his captivating knock.
Following the conclusion of the day’s play, N Jagadeesan expressed his gratitude for the chances he is receiving to compete in events like the Ranji Trophy and the Duleep Trophy, which are dreams for many.
“That will only put more pressure on me if I consider it. I’m here to simply take pleasure in the sport and make sure I have fun with every game I play. According to NDTV Sports, N Jagadeesan stated, “I need to be thankful for the opportunity that I’m getting here because there are a billion people who want to play the Duleep Trophy, Ranji Trophy, and, you know, be part of the Indian team.”
“So, you know, it’s not only about your individual performances; it’s also about the team’s composition and everything else. Therefore, there are numerous X factors. Thus, it’s about focussing on the here and now and not on the future,” he continued.
Enjoying the sport until the day I play is all that matters: N Jagadeesan stated that he is just looking at the positive aspects of his call-up to India and is hoping to have fun while participating in the lovely sport.
“Enjoying the sport till the day I play is all that matters. I believe that in order to be more confident, I should only focus on the good aspects of receiving the Indian call-up. I was extremely fortunate to be present. And I believe I simply need to extract some confidence from it and ensure that I can translate that as I continue to play,” he continued.
