Asif Ali quits international cricket

Asif Ali has retired from all international cricket. The out-of-favour middle-order hitter last played for Pakistan in October 2023. His international career included 21 ODIs and 58 T20Is from 2018 to 2023.

Asif Ali thanked Pakistan cricket on social media to announce his decision. He plans to play domestic and franchise cricket.

“I resign from international cricket today. Wearing the Pakistan jersey and playing cricket for my country has been my greatest honor. I retire with appreciation and will play local and league cricket abroad to express my passion for cricket “Asif stated on social media.

After several strong Islamabad United performances in the Pakistan Super League, Asif Ali was called up to the T20I team against West Indies in April 2018. His ODI debut came two months later.

He suffered from inconsistent selection despite occasional brilliance. The 50-over format allows Asif Ali to conclude innings late. He was sometimes promoted in the same way. He went unbeaten in about 25% of his 58 T20I matches and averaged over seven balls per innings. The stat shows his underuse.

He played in several franchise leagues outside the PSL. Asif played for BBL, CPL, BPL, Mzansi Super League, and Lanka Premier League teams. He scored 382 runs at 25.46 and 121.65 in 21 ODIs and 577 runs at 133.87 in 58 T20Is for Pakistan.
