Prior to the 2026 Indian Premier League season, Rahul Dravid has quit as head coach of the Rajasthan Royals. He has represented the team as a player and coach, but he will no longer be employed by them in any capacity.
On Saturday, August 30, the Rajasthan Royals made a statement on their official social media account announcing that Head Coach Rahul Dravid would be leaving the team before the 2026 Indian Premier League.
For many years, Rahul Dravid has been essential to the Royals’ journey.
His leadership has had a lasting impact on the franchise’s culture, shaped a generation of players, and established strong principles in the team. Rahul Dravid was given a more expansive role at the franchise as part of the structural review, but he decided not to accept it. In addition, the statement said, “The Rajasthan Royals, its players, and millions of fans worldwide extend heartfelt thanks to Rahul Dravid for his remarkable service to the franchise.”
After the 2024 T20 World Cup ended, the Indore-born coach was relieved of his duties as head coach of the India Men’s team and joined the 2008 champions. He had served as the team’s mentor in the 2014 and 2015 seasons of the lucrative competition, and he had a great year returning as head coach for the 2025 edition.
During his time with the team from 2011 to 2013, the Karnataka batter also played and captained for the team. He has participated in 46 IPL games with the team, amassing 1276 runs at a 29.00 average, including seven half-centuries. In the 2013 season, the Jaipur-based team advanced to the Champions League T20 finals under his leadership.
Since the mini-auction for the upcoming season is quickly approaching, the franchise will need to consider their alternatives sooner rather than later now that he is gone.
