In fewer than five months, India will defend their T20 World Cup crown. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly reached out to MS Dhoni once more to serve as a consultant to the national squad ahead of the major event.
During the 2021 T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates, when Virat Kohli was captain and Ravi Shastri was coach, the former captain of India served as a mentor. The Men in Blue did not, however, advance to the knockout stages. They lost by 10 wickets to bitter rivals Pakistan during the tournament. This was their first World Cup loss to the Men in Green.
According to a BCCI source quoted by CricBlogger, Dhoni received the job offer. His strategic thinking, calm leadership, and track record of winning under duress could help the squad be ready for another world title challenge, according to the board.
The source stated, “MS Dhoni is once again offered to guide Indian cricket.”
Insiders speculate that MS Dhoni may be hesitant to take the offer, though, given that Gautam Gambhir is the team’s head coach. Despite their mutual admiration for their contributions to Indian cricket, Gambhir and Dhoni are likely to hold different ideologies as a result of their playing careers.
Several players complimented MS Dhoni role as a mentor for offering insightful commentary on the game, even if India was unable to go past the group stages of the 2021 T20 World Cup.
There may be many young players in the team, which is anticipated to be selected for the next tournament, and Dhoni’s inclusion might be very beneficial to them. That will only be feasible, though, if Gambhir and Dhoni function as a cohesive team.
