Next month, India will defend the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates. Afghanistan will play Hong Kong at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on September 9 to kick off the eight-team competition.
The next day marks the start of India’s campaign as they play the hosts, the United Arab Emirates, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. On September 4, the Men in Blue are scheduled to land in the United Arab Emirates. The most recent reports, however, indicate that the team will not be travelling to the West Asian nation together.
NDTV Sports reported that the team players will arrive in the UAE in groups. The team usually gets together in Mumbai before heading out to a tournament. For logistical reasons, the squad members will be permitted to travel from their respective cities. On September 5, India is expected to hold their first training session in the United Arab Emirates.
“The first nets session will take place at the ICC Academy on September 5 once all of the players arrive in Dubai by the evening of September 4. The aforementioned source cited a top BCCI official as saying, “Taking logistical convenience into account, the players will be permitted to fly into Dubai from their respective cities.”
The Asia Cup will be played in the Twenty20 format in 2025. Suryakumar Yadav will captain the Indian squad, and Shubman Gill will serve as his deputy.
“A few will undoubtedly travel from Mumbai, but it doesn’t make sense to expect some of the others to fly to Dubai after first arriving in Mumbai. In any event, the flight to Dubai is shorter than other international flights,” the official continued.
Under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, India won the 2025 Champions Trophy, their final white-ball assignment. By the way, the United Arab Emirates hosted that competition as well. With eight victories in the continental competition, India is the most successful team in Asia Cup history.
