Cameron Green smashes second-fastest ODI ton by an Australian

In the third ODI against South Africa in Mackay on August 24, Cameron Green made history by scoring the second-fastest ODI century by an Australian. Green needed just 47 deliveries to reach his first ODI century.

At the end of the innings, the batting all-rounder was undefeated after hitting 118 off 55 deliveries. He hit eight sixes and six fours in his scorching knock.

One of the main causes of Australia’s final score of 431/2 after 50 overs was Cameron Green innings, which was full of boundaries.

Australia’s fastest 100s in ODIs as of August 2025:
Player Balls Opposition Venue Year
Glenn Maxwell 40 Netherlands Delhi 2023
Cameron Green 47 South Africa Mackay 2025
Glenn Maxwell 51 Sri Lanka Sydney 2015
Glenn Maxwell 51 Sri Lanka Sydney 2015
James Faulkner 57 India Bengaluru 2013

Just behind their 434/4 against the same opposition in 2006, Australia’s 431/2 was their second-highest ODI score. Cameron Green, Travis Head (142 off 103), and Marsh (100 off 106) were among three centurions from the Mitchell Marsh-led team.

Cameron Green undefeated 164-run partnership with Alex Carey (50* off 37) for the third wicket off 82 balls was the second time Australia had reached a 150-run or more partnership in the same ODI. Head and Marsh, the openers, had earlier scored 250 runs off 205 balls. In total, this was the seventh time in an ODI innings that a team had two stands of 150 or more.

Only Senuran Muthusamy (1/75 in nine overs) and Keshav Maharaj (1/57 in 10 overs), both left-arm spinners, claimed a wicket for their team. Together, the new-ball duo of Kwena Maphaka and Wiaan Mulder conceded 166 runs in 13 overs.

After winning the first two games of the three-match series by 98 and 84 runs, the Proteas have already seized a 0–2 lead. In the first and second ODIs, Maharaj (5/33) and Lungi Ngidi (5/42) were named Player of the Match.
