'He loved burgers, pizzas, milkshakes' - Ex-bowling coach on Bumrah's diet change

Over the years, the Indian team’s pace-bowling unit has relied heavily on star bowler Jasprit Bumrah. But to get to where he is now, the current No. 1 Test bowler had to endure a great deal of sacrifice, hard work, and commitment. A gourmet at heart, Bumrah recently disclosed how he went through a crazy metamorphosis to become one of the top bowlers of the current age, according to former India bowling coach Bharat Arun.

Bumrah had visited the National Cricket Academy (NCA) while he was an Under-19 player, where Arun and his support team developed the pacer. The trainers attempted to modify the Ahmedabad native’s distinctive motion, but ultimately led to a lack of speed. As a result, they had to use a rigorous diet and appropriate exercise to change his body.

We spoke with the strength and fitness coach and the physiotherapist about Bumrah’s ability to bowl quickly. We agreed that his action is quite distinctive and creates a lot of pace, so I wouldn’t want to touch it. However, it also causes him tension,” Arun said in an interview with TOI.

We called him and advised him to be like a bull in order to withstand the shock of quick bowling. It all boils down to sacrifice, exercise, and diet. In all fairness, Bumrah changed right away. He began eating healthily and exercising out at the gym. He shared Virat Kohli’s level of dedication. He enjoyed milkshakes, pizza, and burgers. Overnight, he sacrificed everything. Arun went on to say that although he was a Punjabi lad living in Gujarat, his passion for bowling outweighed any hunger.

Bumrah will next be seen at the Asia Cup.

Bumrah is healthy and available for India’s campaign at the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, despite numerous discussions about how he manages his workload. He will lead the Men in Blue’s speed assault alongside Arshdeep Singh after being selected by the national selectors to be part of the 15-man team. On September 10, Bumrah and India will play the United Arab Emirates to start their campaign in the international event.
