The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) revealed a 16-man roster on Friday, August 22, for the September Asia Cup, which would be played in the Twenty20 format. The eight-team competition will be held in the United Arab Emirates.
All-rounder Saif Hassan and wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan have been called up by the Bangladeshi selectors to the senior men’s squad for the continental tournament. However, top-order batsman Mohammad Naim and veteran all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who were both a part of Bangladesh’s 2-1 victory over Pakistan in Dhaka last month, were left out.
Mehidy lost his spot in the Asia Cup, but he would have missed the Netherlands games for personal reasons.
Beginning on August 30, the same 16-man team will compete in the three-match T20I series against the Netherlands. After Bangladesh’s 2-1 loss to the United Arab Emirates, the new ODI skipper rejoined the T20I team, although he fell short of his promise. Nonetheless, he has been listed as one of the four backup players.
Nurul made just 41 runs in five innings during his final Twenty20 International match, which took place in Australia during the 2022 World Cup. In the 2024–25 season, the 31-year-old had a far stronger campaign, scoring 513 runs at a strike rate of 132.90 in the Global Super League (GSL), National Cricket League, and Bangladesh Premier League. Nurul, who was born in Khulna, also guided Rangpur Riders to the first-ever GSL championship the previous season.
In the game’s shortest format, Litton Das will remain the captain of Bangladesh. The seasoned trio of Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, and Shoriful Islam will be available in the bowling lineup. Given his incredible form in recent months, all eyes will be on Jaker Ali in the batting department.
In the Asia Cup, Bangladesh is positioned in Group B. On September 11, they will play Hong Kong at Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Stadium to kick off their campaign. At the same location, they will play their next two matches on September 13 against Sri Lanka and September 16 against Afghanistan.
Litton Das (C, WK), Tanzid Hasan, Parvez Hossain Emon, Saif Hassan, Towhid Hridoy, Jaker Ali, Shamim Hossain, Nurul Hasan, Mahedi Hasan, Rishad Hossain, Nasum Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Tanzid Hasan, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, and Mohammad Saifuddin are the members of the Bangladeshi team for the Asia Cup and the Netherlands T20Is.
