Jason Holder ended his team’s losing streak in the 2025 CPL by scoring 38 runs, adding a vital 55-run partnership with Kyle Mayers, and then coming back to take four wickets. After scoring 174 for 8, the St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots defeated the Barbados Royals by a margin of 12 runs.
When the Royals invited the Patriots to bat early in the innings, things started to go south. Mohammad Rizwan, Rilee Rossouw, and Evin Lewis were all removed within the PowerPlay, while Andre Fletcher was removed in the ninth over after hitting three fours and a six for his 25 off of 16 balls. That led to a stand that saved an innings between Holder and Mayers. In the 12th over, Holder targeted Kofi James for 15 runs, and in the 13th over, Mayers hit Nyeem Young, giving the batting side 13 runs.
But when Brandon King dropped a sitter at cover in the 15th over, Holder took full advantage of the reprieve
After Mayers’ wicket, Eathan Bosch came back to break the stand. Abbas Afridi hit two sixes before Naseem Shah did the same in the final over from Bosch, which cost 17 runs, but the Royals continued to reclaim wickets.
Quinton de Kock and Brandon King were unable to continue after strong beginnings, as they lost two wickets in the PowerPlay and a third in the ninth over, following a trajectory that was almost exactly the same as the Royals’ response. Regretfully, the Royals lacked the Holder-Mayers type of collaboration to keep up the pursuit. There wasn’t enough support on the opposite end, even when Kadeem Alleyne tried to counterpunch. Rovman Powell raised expectations with a 15-ball 21, but it wasn’t enough. He smacked three sixes and two fours in his 28-ball 42.
The chasers were reduced to 146 for 8 in the 17th over as Holder’s double-wicket over further weakened them. No. 11 batsman Simmonds attempted to stir things up with a four and a six after Naseem had cut the team to nine down, but Holder got rid of Jomel Warrican at the other end to seal the win.
